Qualifying Procedure for UK WPC/WSC teams

The selection procedure for the UK teams will be based entirely on performances in the qualifying competitions.

• The Open Tournaments. These are multi-round contests, spread over a full weekend, at a hotel in the UK.
• The UK National Championships. These are a challenging single round contests, conducted online.

Eligibility:

Any person who has the right to possess a full UK passport, and has the right to travel to the WPC/WSC host nation is eligible for selection.

World Puzzle Championship (WPC) UK A Team: (4 persons)

The selection committee determines if there are any automatic qualifiers based on performances in the prior World Puzzle Championship. All remaining team places are allocated based on performances to the top eligible British competitors in the following contests:

1. The UK Open Puzzle Tournament (on-site)
2. The UK Puzzle Championship (on-line)

Selection process:

1. Only (and all) UK competitors, in the two qualifying competitions above, will be considered for the selection priority list.
2. Regardless of duplications, or pre-declared unavailability, all the highest ranking UK competitors will be added to the list in the order of contest precedence given above.
3. Regardless of duplications, or pre-declared unavailability, all the 2nd highest ranking UK competitors will be added to the list in the same way.
4. And so on, until all UK participants, participating in any of the above contests, are included, regardless of pre-declared availability for the WPC.
5. Once complete, all duplicates will be removed from the list, to produce the final selection priority list.
6. The four highest ranked players (or fewer, if there are automatic qualifiers) will be offered a team place.
7. Potential team members will have 7 days to confirm acceptance of their team place offer.
8. If a team place is declined, or not confirmed within 7 days, the offer will pass down to the next person on the selection priority list.

WPC Puzzle B Team: (4 persons)

The WPC B team score will NOT feature on the official results, nor will the scores of any of the individuals in the B team.
Selection for a B team, should we include one, will be entirely at the discretion and choice of the selection committee.

World Sudoku Championship (WSC) UK A Team: (4 persons)

The selection committee determines if there are any automatic qualifiers based on performances in the prior World Sudoku Championship. All remaining team places are allocated based on performances to the top eligible British competitors in the following contests:

1. The UK Open Sudoku Tournament (on-site) - Top 2 eligible British competitors
2. The UK Sudoku Championship (on-line) - Top 2 eligible British competitors

Selection process:

1. Only (and all) UK competitors, in the two qualifying competitions above, will be considered for the selection priority list.
2. A WSC team selection priority list will be created and used in exactly the same way as for WPC team selection.
3. Place acceptance rules are as per WPC rules stated above.

WSC Sudoku B Team:

The WSC B team score will NOT feature on the official results, nor will the scores of any of the individuals in the B team.
Selection for a B team, should we include one, will be entirely at the discretion and choice of the selection committee.

UK Puzzle Championship

The United Kingdom Puzzle Championship (UKPC) is scheduled to take place each year in June every year.

If you wish to participate in the contest, you will need to register on the UK Puzzle Association forum.

The test will feature a range of puzzles typically found in the world championship. It will be a mix of common and rare/new puzzle types.

An instruction booklet will be published on the contests page of this site around one week prior to the contest detailing the puzzle types that will appear in the main test, along with examples of each.

If you wish to practice in the meantime, see the puzzle links and competitions areas of the forum. All UK Puzzle (and Sudoku) Championship puzzles since 2011, plus various other relevant competitions, are available for you to print and solve at your leisure.

All puzzles will be logically solvable, and feature a range of difficulty levels. Participation in this contest is free of charge.

UK Sudoku Championship

These official national championships are hosted by the UK Puzzle Association (UKPA) on its website (www.ukpuzzles.org).
The organisers are not responsible for any costs or losses incurred, directly or indirectly, as a result of participation in these contests.
Any details provided to the UKPA will be kept private, and shared with nobody at all, under any circumstances, except as required by a court order.
The approximate location of your IP address will be recorded and may be used for publicly available statistical purposes, but will not in any way identify any individual or indeed their actual IP address.
