Round 1 of Divisions C and B starts in a few weeks. Here are the puzzle variants for Tents and Hitori with some example puzzles so that you have time to get acclimatised. Please ask any questions about the rules of these puzzles below.

Edited to include Domino Hitori instructions as they were missed off in v1.

The rules for Domino Hitori are missing. I assume that it's standard Hitori rules except that rather than shading individual squares you shade dominoes which must not touch orthogonally?

That's exactly it. I've replaced the IB to contain these instructions. Thank you!

Here we are! The 2021-22 season begins now with Tents and Hitori.

Please download and print the puzzles. You can complete them in any order at any point between now and Tuesday 7th December.

For each puzzle, remember to time yourself honestly as to how long it takes.

When you are finished all of the puzzles, or as many as you are able to, please email adam@ukpuzzles.org your times for each puzzle and the answer key for each puzzle (to ensure that you have understood how each solution is supposed to look).

If you are not in Divisions B or C, your times will be entered onto an all-comers scoreboard, which will not score points in the UK Puzzle League. If you are in Divisions B or C, the solver with the most points in Division C will receive 10 credits, the second will receive 9 credits and so on. If two or more solvers score the same number of points, then the fastest total time (spent on completed puzzles) will score the higher number of credits. If you are new to the UK Puzzle League, you can join in Division C late. Division B is similar, but since it is fixed at 5 members for the season, the person in first place gets 5 credits, second gets 4 credits and so on.

If you have any questions, please ask via email (adam@ukpuzzles.org)

Please do not discuss the puzzles in the forum until the competition is declared closed.

Have fun!

I didn't get a chance to look at the IB until last night. There's a lot of variations so I'm excited. And some of them seem like they might be hard, so hopefully I don't get stuck! Good luck to everyone!

Evening all. For those of you attempting the puzzles still, Puzzle 20 is broken, and Puzzle 16 is non-unique, and I will accept either solution.

Thanks everyone, Round 1 is closed! Thanks very much to Sam Cappleman-Lynes for helping me to fix a lot of errors in the initial draft of this round. Lots of you also had some issues in your first attempts, and there was a real mix of puzzlers going straight through a puzzle or getting bogged down. However, maximum points for that round go to Maurice and Liane who avoided getting bogged down too much! Division B are in blue and Division C are in red.

Maurice Blount - 150 points - 51m52
Liane Robinson - 150 points - 53m23
Michael Collins - 150 points - 56m15
Thomas Powell - 150 points - 62m05
Jeffrey Dick - 150 points - 62m59
Eva Myers - 150 points - 66m04
AJ Moore - 150 points - 72m57
Emma McCaughan - 144 points - 60m06

Paul Smith - 135 points - 65m13

Next round will be in January. Exact dates will be known when the WPF release their Grand Prix dates.
