14th 24 hour puzzle championship
It appears this years 24hr championship will be taking place 21st-23rd March (link to event on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/247785822055351/). Given that I don't have a foreign WSC/WPC to look forward to this year, I may well be tempted. Please tell me I'm crazy and talk me out of it!

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
You might be crazy, but I'm definitely not going to talk you out of it. I will be going too.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you there. See it as a warm up for the UK Opent Tournaments where everyone's invited.

Obviously this event is only for those who have a Facebook account

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
Not at all. I'm sure that there will be a formal announcement elsewhere.Mephisto wrote:Obviously this event is only for those who have a Facebook account
Presumably the format will be similar to previous years.
Arrivals during Friday (for the majority)
Competition start Saturday morning - approximately 10 am.
Finish Sunday morning - 24 hours after the start.
Lunch, prizegiving
Transfers back to airport/train stations.
I'll ask for official information to be forwarded to be posted on here.

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
Hi UK puzzle-fans,
only the very first announcment was done only on the Facebook, so all non-FB-user are welcome and will be informed by other ways.
Some basic information: The schedule of the weekend will be the same as it was, the location will be again Hotel Amadeus***, Budapest.
The fees are: 180 Euros in double room and 240 Euros in single room. 40 Euros discount goes to the puzzle authors.
The fee covers the transfers from/to the airport, meals, soft drinks, coffee, tea during the 24 hours and ... the puzzles of course
Please contact Pál Madarassy, if you want to be one of the 14 puzzle authors (pal.madarassy@gmail.com).
You can check the last year's announcments about the criteria of the puzzle-sets at http://forum.worldpuzzle.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=85 , probably it will be the same this year, too.
If you need more information, feel free to ask here, or contact me (istvan.gyorgy@gmail.com).

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
Dear UK puzzlers and puzzle-makers,
Indeed, this year I have been given the honour of managing the authoring process for the puzzles of the 14th 24-Hour Puzzle Championship.
As you may know, fourteen (14) puzzle rounds (sets) are needed, each accounting for 100 minutes of net solving time. (the format of the competition allows the puzzle makers to participate as everybody has to skip one round anyway).
As UK will be the host of the WPC this year it would be really a nice opportunity to show the British type of puzzles puzzlers can expect in August. I suppose that all your best puzzles will go to the WPC, however an average 24HPC set contains more conservative type of puzzles so this may not prevent you to organise a British set this year.
A good puzzle set contains a fine mixture of various logic puzzles, ranging from very traditional and well-known puzzles through variations and specialities to complete novelties,
and they are also supposed to vary on difficulty. Traditionally, a single set is typically created by one author but we've seen instances of two designers co-operating to put their
puzzles together into a single set, or even three or more people can co-operate.
I already have sent out the first mail to potential puzzle-makers all over the world but will publish on the WPF forum an open request as well tomorrow.

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
One day this will coincide with my school holidays... Never mind. Hope it all goes well
Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
Hi guys,
Unfortunately it looks unlikely that I will make it this year, but I would highly recommend this event to everyone. It is heaps of fun and an incredible experience.
Best of luck to Liane (and Neil) if you're both going!

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
Tom,
I have put together about half a set so far and have indicated to Pal that I hope to submit a full set by 3 March. If you would like to join forces, I would be delighted.
I have booked my flights and this will be my first ever 24 hour championship. Really looking forward to it.

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
Great news. Gyorgy has posted most of the 24 hour instruction booklets on the WPF forum.

And the UK puzzle set is first up!

That means we have to wait till the end to find out how we got on in our first round. Our scores will be playing catch up on the leader board too.david mcneill wrote:Great news. Gyorgy has posted most of the 24 hour instruction booklets on the WPF forum.

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
Your results will be available after Part 11 (that is the last time, when the 'jumping' set is solved by someone...)
Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
The results are available.
Neil 4th, David 11th, Tom 15th, and Liane 24th of 30 competitors.

Well done everybody - excellent performances all round. Neil missed out on a podium place by a fraction (ouch) - which question was it Neil?

After 24 hours, there's probably many answers to that question!Janix wrote:which question was it Neil?
A very strong field of competitors though, well done to everyone.

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
It was a great weekend, thanks to all involved - either organising or participating.
Just an extra 85 points on the last round would have been enough for Neil in the final round (R13).

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
I suppose my solving is a little bit rusty, and I'm a bit gutted I let David get away from me
but it was a brilliant weekend and I'm definitely glad I came along!

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
I was happy to meet some of you - it's always nicer to know the people who "hide" behind a nickname...
I haven't been on lots of international tournaments in the last years, actually as far as I can remember, the last one I attended was the 24h in 2007...

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
I enjoyed my visit a lot. Was great meeting everyone there.
Thanks for the warm company!

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
A bit late, but I'll add my voice to those who are saying it was a lot of fun. My body may disagree slightly, but then there are a lot worse things I could do to it than deprive it of sleep for one night! Hopefully next time I'll be more alert in the final rounds...
Also, looking through the detailed results, I'm quite glad to see there was one puzzle that I was the only one to solve!

Re: 14th 24 hour puzzle championship
All the puzzlemakers gave us a permission to make their sets publicly available:
So, all the puzzles and solutions are now available for your personal use:

Hereby, I would like to say thank all the puzzlemaker again for the great puzzles. Without their work this year 24HPC would not have been possible.
As far as I kow there were no broken puzzle this year (few dualic of course happened to be revealed).
See you next year on the 15th 24-Hour Puzzle Championship!
