Re: UKPA Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournaments 2019
hi there, thanks for the reply. I'm surely trying to go through them all. Trying. So just to make sure I understand it correctly... if the instructions state that all such occurencies are given, there cannot be a pair of numbers adding up to 5 or 10 anywhere else in the puzzle other than marked one...

Re: UKPA Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournaments 2019
Hi Tom, I hope you are enjoying working through the examples. I believe that the problem you are encountering with these is that the instructions stated that 'all' such marks are given in the grid, so for the XV puzzle for example, if you were to put 4,1 in row six instead of 1,4 then you would have...

Re: UKPA Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournaments 2019
Hi Adam, Yes you are correct on the killers. The grids will be different but have an identical solutions. You 'll need to work on both grids to get the solution. As long as one grid is fully completed correctly then you will get the points awarded. Coded First Seen Snake looks like the solution hasn...

Re: UKPA Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournaments 2019
Hi Hassana, Each round has the puzzles that are described in the instruction booklet. The best solvers may well solve all the puzzles in the time allowed for that particular round and if they do, they can earn bonus points for each minute that they save (as long as their answers are all correct, or ...

Re: UKPA Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournaments 2019
Hi, overall the rounds look very exciting and I am glad I decided to participate this year. Two small points: 1) In round two of the puzzle competition, the minesweeper example puzzle does not seem to be a minesweeper puzzle. 2) Is there any additional information about the team rounds? They are me...

My flight's booked for the Friday - arriving at the airport round lunch time, so probably too late for a meet up. Hopefully some of the others will be able to make it.

Re: Disjoint regions sudoku [new example]
Without getting into discussions about what is/isn't appropriate, my concern with this is the use of the colours - which could be a problem for those with colour blindness, unless of course the disjointed regions were marked some other way.

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2018 / WPC Qualification
The Fillomino different shapes has me completely baffled. I broke it in a few places. What should I have been doing? Fillomino - you can see that all options for 2,3 and 4 pieces must be used and you can work out how many 5's and 6's there must be so there must be a single cell somewhere. Look at t...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2018 / WPC Qualification
Hi Lovely looking IB. I reckon I’ll have a wide range of puzzles to get into. I’m intrigued by Laser, but I don’t understand either the mirrors or the answer key. What are “one cell sections”? When it talks about mirrors, are they very small, just at the intersection of vertical and horizontal squa...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2018 / WPC Qualification
Am I missing something in the rules for Fillomino (Different Shapes)? The example puzzle seems not to have a unique solution - one can replace the 4 and 3 polyominoes from the lower-left corner of the given solution with a single 7 polyomino without appearing to break any of the constraints. I thin...
