Re: 2020 UKPA Open Sudoku and Open Puzzle Tournaments

E.g. is the schedule roughly the same as in previous years - e.g. Sudoku competition is entirely on the Saturday, and the Puzzle competition is split between the last bit of Saturday and then Sunday? This is already stated above - but yes Sudoku entirely on Saturday and Puzzle split as you state. A...

Re: Results: 2019 UK Puzzle Championship

I just wanted to add my voice to those expressing their thanks for organising & hosting this event. This was my first time participating in anything like this & I had a great time. All the puzzles were a joy to solve & it's been having a lot of fun working my way through the remaining puzzles in my...

Re: Results: 2019 UK Puzzle Championship

Hi Bram, you're welcome - it looks like a couple of you did that but there were a range of errors on that puzzle including not 'seeing' the 'regular' rectangles properly for some reason. I'm glad you enjoyed the puzzles - thanks again to the authors of them all.

Re: Results: 2019 UK Puzzle Championship

Hi Bram, The solution file has now been uploaded. I've just been having a look at the answer submissions on puzzle #18. There were a variety of different submissions, several of which appeared to have the ‘standard’ rectangle above the 0 wrong, some didn’t record any of the 'standard' rectangles at ...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2019 / WPC Qualification

Liane - re answer codes, the instructions provide fairly clear detail about what the answer keys should be - e.g. for cave: Answer Key: Going clockwise from the top left corner enter the area of the groups of cells that are connected to the outside of the grid that are not part of the cave, separat...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2019 / WPC Qualification

Are 1-cell and 2-cell (or, in general, straight lines) considered L shapes for the Fillomino?
No 1 -cell and 2-cell (or other straight lines) are not considered L shapes. They must be a minimum of three cells and there must be a 90 degree turn.

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2019 / WPC Qualification

When solving the Kuromasu example, it made me wonder whether the remaining white cells can be orthogonally connected through the clue cells, or whether all the white cells had to be touching and the clue cells blocked the white cell connections. Exciting looking mix here. I'm looking forward to it....

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2019 / WPC Qualification

Just dropping in. Liane, thanks for posting the instruction booklet. Is it possible to post a copy of the UK Open puzzles? I think there was at least one Loose Magnets puzzle therein. Or just those particular puzzles if it isn't possible to post the whole files. One other piece of pedantry. Can you...

Re: UK Puzzle Championship 2019 / WPC Qualification

Thanks Liane! I'll kick off the questions... - There are conflicting lengths of time for the contest. Most places say 2.5 hours, but the "Points and Bonuses" section of the instructions says "the allotted two hours" and the contest page itself says "3 hours". - In Pentopia the instructions suggest ...

If you're happy with just the instruction then you won't need a copy of the instruction file, but if you do want a copy of the example you'll need to bring a pri...

Re: UKPA Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournaments 2019

Am I being daft (quite possible) or are there two solutions to Double Skyscrapers, Puzzle Round 5? If you interchange the 1s and 2s in the second and fifth rows, I think that's still a valid solution or am I missing something in the rules? Have you checked the last sentence of the instruction? If y...
